Defy Me by, Tahereh Mafi

3 Stars!!
“Happiness does not happen. Happiness must be uncovered, separated from the skin of pain. It must be claimed. Kept close. Protected.”

So....where do I begin? I liked it for sure... but pretty sure this is the Shatter Me series from another dimension cuz.... WOW.

Yeah so everyone is just so watered down now. Warner is like a totally different person. Not to mention Juliet...

Whoops... I mean Ella?!?!?

Honestly I feel like what happened in this book probably could have been shortened and made into a novella. I miss the feel of the old peeps and...

Kenji was in this one because he is just what is needed when having to deal with Juliet's errr Ella's emotions- constantly all over the place.

So yeah- Im here for the long haul but I wasn't very excited with this installment. It fell flat for me. Really hoping the last book goes out with a BANG!!

Shadow Me Novella 4.5 by Tahereh Mafi

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟!!

Who wouldn’t love a novella from Kenjis POV?!? He’s like literally the best part of the series. We don’t get much from this novella TBH. Just a few good laughs and smiles from the Ken-dawg. Which was fun. We see a tiny bit behind the scenes before all hell breaks loose with Juliet. Looking forward to book 5!!!

Limerence book 2 by, Claire C Riley

4 Stars!!
When you see life through the eyes of a vampire, you see the true colors of the world.

Well.... this was SOOOO not what I was expecting. Just like book 1 - thought I had an idea how this would go and well HAHAHA Jokes on ME!

Mia has almost let her humanity go

and she has started to embrace the vampire side of herself. The whole book she struggles to fight off her inner vampire, who calls herself Maya. A little alter ego action.

Then there is Evan - her trainer.... SWOON- they both want one another but its off limits.

There is a ton of chemistry between the two. He also is supposed to help Mia keep Maya at bay. That really doesn't work out too well.

The ending of this book had me BUG EYED.

I was like WHAT HUH??? WTAF just happened?? I don't know if this series will have another book or not. But either way- the ending was like so unexpected that I could almost be satisfied with its conclusion....maybe...

Limerence Book 1 by Claire C Riley

4 Stars!!

All righty then.... well this was not what I was expecting when I downloaded this lil gem to my kindle. This book was a legit WTF- book.

Despite being desperately in love and engaged to Oliver-

Mia, finds herself attracted to Mr. Breckt.

She cant explain why just being in the presence of her fiancés boss, makes her feel things she knows she shouldn't be feeling. Her thoughts her feelings- even when she is away, Mr. Breckt consumes her mind.

Mr Breckt is used to getting what he wants, and now he wants Mia, at any cost! With his obsession spiraling out of control, he knows that time is running out. A war is coming. Blood will be shed, and lives will be lost, but he will have to rid himself of his obsession of Mia before it’s too late.

Mia and Oliver must fight to hold onto what they both share. If either one of them fails, it could cost both of them in the end.

This is a vampire story- just not the kind where the vampires start to sparkle in the sunlight.

UMMM NO....

These vampires are old school. Like the kind from interview with the vampire. They cry tears of blood and sweat blood. They don't have much humanity and they aren't sweet and cuddly. This is a dark, well written story- full of lust, obsession and Love.

I loved Ollie and Mia together. They were so sweet and just perfection. I couldn't stand Mr. Breckt, but at the same time- his character was presented flawlessly. You cant help but hate him yet love his character for what it is.

The beginning of this was a little slow for me, but after about the 50 % mark- I was in for the long haul. That's where things really started to pick up and the action and drama really started to unfold. The last 20% was soooo intense. With a cliffhanger that left me only wanting more.

I cant wait to read part 2!! If you're into vampires- you should give this one a go!!

Praying for Rain by BB Easton

4 Stars!!

“None of this matters, and we’re all going to die.”

This was my first B.B. Easton book and I thought it was fun!! It was a new twist on The Apocalypse.

We follow Rainbow- aka Rain as our main character. Everyone has been having dreams and signs, and the Scientists swear they have figured out the date that the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse are going to show up- April 23rd. Which is only 3 days away.

Everything has become a waste land of abandoned cars, abandoned homes, abandoned businesses, and abandoned people. People like Rain. She isn't afraid of dying, in fact it cant get here fast enough for her.

Wes Parker :

...has lived through every curve ball this world has thrown at him- making him a survivor.
Why should the end of the world be any different? As long as he sticks to his plan- Supplies- Self Defense- Shelter- Stranger. As long as he gets those before April 23rd, he will be just fine. And thats exactly what he finds when he returns to his hometown in Franklin Springs Georgia.

This was such a fun quick read. It was such a unique take on the end of the world. I enjoyed the plot pacing and characters. I felt like the romance was a little rushed as far as throwing the "I love yous" around. I know it was the end of the world and all but it just seemed WAY too fast - I clearly got over that aspect - Obviously because I kept reading and enjoyed it very much! I am really looking forward to reading more from this author and cant wait for the rest of this series!!

The Death Fields Book 1-3 by Angel Lawson

4 Stars!!

“You do realize historically what has happened to those who can potentially save mankind? Ever hear of Jesus Christ? It’s not like he got a warm welcome.”

Alex is a senior in high school. Shes a smart girl working her way towards becoming the valedictorian and going to Duke. Her dad is a scientist and is always working on something new and groundbreaking. Everyone in town is anxious due to the news reports of people contracting a virus that makes humans have super strength and turn into cannibals. The virus is starting to spread world wide. What she doesn't know, is that her father may be doing more than just looking through a microscope in his lab at home.

The virus finally hits her town, and Alex's father is called in to work to help come up with a cure. He leaves Alex and her mom at home and tells them to stay home- unless he is gone longer than 2 weeks. If he isn't back, he wants them to leave and he gives Alex a package to hold on to with instructions to find her sister June who is working at a lab in Georgia.

2 weeks have passed and the world is in complete chaos. Alex and her mom set off on a journey to find her sister. Neither are sure they are ready but time is up and its time to find out if they have what it takes to make it through the Death Fields.

That was just the synopsis of book 1. I read books 1-3 so far and enjoyed them. Each book built upon each other and kept getting better and better with each installment. The writing was simple and easy to follow. Characters were likable and I loved the dystopian feel of it all.

This is a survival book with plenty of action and conflict. There is a little bit of romance but not that much. In fact, its just starting to take root by the end of book 3. As far as the gore- its not bad and not scary. It reminds me a lot of any type of dystopian- concentrating mainly on the characters and their survival. I would recommend it!

Daisy Jones and The Six by, Taylor Jenkins Reid

5 Stars!!
“It is what I have always loved about music. Not the sounds or the crowds or the good times as much as the words -- the emotions, the stories, the truth -- that you can let flow right out of your mouth. Music can dig, you know? It can take a shovel to your chest and just start digging until you hit something.”

I decided to do the audiobook, and I am so glad I did!! Written in an interview style reminiscent of VH1 Behind the Music, this one did not disappoint !

Daisy Jones is a girl growing up in LA in the 60's. Going to clubs, hanging with Rockstar's is just a normal day for her. She loves the scene she lives in, but most of all, she loves Rock and Roll. By the time she is in her 20's daisy is a beauty and her voice is starting to get noticed, unfortunately its not the only thing.

Also getting noticed, is The Six, and up and coming rock band led by lead singer Billy Dunne. While on tour, Billy finds out his girlfriend is pregnant- which sends him into a downward spiral..

Daisy and Billy cross paths, and get noticed by a producer who seems to think throwing them together will ignite a new freshness for Rock and Roll. What happens next is the stuff for legends.

I really, REALLY loved this book. From the first chapter, I was wishing I had an actual physical copy because, there were so many quotes and little words of wisdom that I wanted to highlight and keep forever!!

“But loving somebody isn't perfection and good times and laughing and making love. Love is forgiveness and patience and faith and every once in a while, it's a gut punch. That's why it's a dangerous thing, when you go loving the wrong person. When you love somebody who doesn't deserve it. You have to be with someone that deserves your faith and you have to be deserving of someone else's. It's sacred.”

I litereally felt like I was watching VH1 behind the music while I listened to this audiobook!! There is a full cast with well known actors that just made it come alive.

Cast List: Daisy Jones, read by Jennifer Beals; Billy Dunne, read by Pablo Schreiber; Graham Dunne, read by Benjamin Bratt; Eddie Loving, read by Fred Berman; Warren Rhodes, read by Ari Fliakos; Karen Karen, read by Judy Greer; Camila Dunne, read by January LaVoy; Simone Jackson, read by Robinne Lee; Narrator/Author, read by Julia Whelan; Jim Blades, read by Jonathan Davis; Rod Reyes, read by Henry Leyva; Artie Snyder, read by Oliver Wyman; Elaine Chang, read by Nancy Wu; Freddie Mendoza, read by P.J. Ochlan; Nick Harris, read by Arthur Bishop; Jonah Berg, read by Holter Graham; Greg McGuinness, read by Brendan Wayne; Pete Loving, read by Pete Larkin; Wyatt Stone, read by Alex Jenkins Reid; Hank Allen, read by Robert Petkoff; Opal Cunningham, read by Sara Arrington

This book was about sex, drugs and Rock and Roll life. But it was also SO MUCH MORE. We get to see what really goes on in the life of a musician. The obstacles they personally have to face and the hoops they go through to get where they are. I honestly thought this was so well written and not at all as bad as I thought "seeing behind the scenes" would be.

The characters had tons of depth. The writing was brilliant and I fell in love along with the characters and seeing them struggle to be a part of something, to make a name for themselves. I totally recommend this to everyone. Its a beautiful broken story about finding out what it means to overcome and defining yourself by your own standards. Absolutely amazing!

Odium Book 6 by Claire C Riley

4 Stars!!
“The only thing this world was made for was death. It’ll kill us all equally, given the chance,” he said darkly. “Doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman, black or white, gay or straight. Death is coming for us all.”

Pretty much felt like that guy reading this one.... this book pissed me off so bad.. I rated it a 4 because duh - writing but like if we wanna rate this based on emotions... big fat 2! BECAUSE I AM NOT OK after that cliffhanger.

Not much has changed as far as my love for this series. I have literally been on the edge of my seat for this whole ride. The world is starting to completely fall apart around Nina and Mikey. They find themselves fighting something bigger than the zombies. But when death is all there is- Mikey and Nina both run into danger willingly. And the reader is caught up in all this mess dealing with their emotions alone. ITS SO MUCH FUN! (enter sarcasm)

The plot continues to be full of action, heartache, death and romance. There is still the constant presence of blood, gore, and terror. We see humans being worse than the deaders/zombies in this one.

Nina continues to try and work out her feelings between Mikey and Shooter.

"Shooter and I were two different people. We came from two very different worlds. And if it weren’t for the apocalypse, we never would have met."

The whole love triangle thing in the middle of an apocalypse gives me anxiety... and I need her to figure her crap out. We lost a few people and met some new ones. We see a little bit more of clans working together and seeing a bigger threat.

Overall- I'm ready for the next book. This one made me angry but also, kept me entertained. My ship is just sinking and I need it to not do that!! If you haven't picked up this series, I still 100 percent recommend you go do it!!
